How do you make an interesting video out of lawn sprinklers? Good question. That was the challenge posed to the team at Paul David Productions by Hydrologic – an irrigation company based in Plymouth, Minnesota. Hydrologic had developed a breakthrough system called “HC3”. The irrigation system actually utilizes current weather conditions to determine how much or how little water is needed. It’s not only good for the environment, but the pocketbook as well. Paul David Productions knew that they needed interesting angles, stunning photography and complex graphics to carry interest throughout the production. It was also important to Hydrologic to have a basic education about lawn irrigation included as well. All along, the key was to keep it educational without being too elementary. High production values and a unique professional voiceover combined to deliver the results Hydrologic was expecting.

The production was shot on a Panasonic SDX-900 DVCPRO 50 24p switchable camera. Paul David Productions also has high definition capabilities with a Sony PDW-700 XDCAM HD and Panasonic Varicam. All cameras are equipped with Fujinon HD lenses.

The animations were produced by utilizing: Autodesk Maya, Newtek Lightwave 3D, Adobe After-Effects

All these elements were woven together on the AVID NITRIS DX editing system to make a compelling and comprehensive production. Hydrologic utilized the production to promote its HC3 system among potential customers.
