The City of Chaska

A Quality Small Town

The City of Chaska, Minnesota approached Paul David Productions with one goal – find an interesting and creative way to document why Chaska was voted one of the best medium-sized cities to live in the country. Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? But, when you think about it, capturing the spirit of an entire city while including everything that it has to offer, is no easy task. That’s why, before a frame of video was ever captured, the team at Paul David Productions conducted extensive research in the city to determine the most effective way to tell the story. The consistent theme that kept surfacing was how Chaska has successfully found a way to preserve the “small town” atmosphere even though this Minnesota city has grown to be home to more than 20,000 residents.

Upon completing the research and discovery phase, Paul David Productions then got to work, canvassing the city, in search of those unique attributes that make Chaska such a great place to live, work and raise a family. They interviewed the members of the 10:15 coffee club at the local bakery, spoke with new residents about the reasons they moved here, talked to those who were born here to find out why they’ve stayed for so long, interviewed business owners, spoke with city leaders, students, teachers, baseball fans, volunteers, and community organizers. They captured this passion and love of community on a Panasonic SDX-900 DVCPRO 50 24p switchable camera. The professional voiceover talent was Angela Hampton. She is a former television news anchor in the Minneapolis/St. Paul market who is now a main anchor on the east coast.

All these elements were woven together on the AVID NITRIS DX editing system to make a compelling and comprehensive production. The City of Chaska utilizes the production to remind existing residents why they chose to settle here and to attract new businesses and new residents to the area.
